The aim is to help patients monitor and improve their management of asthma. We would encourage all patients with asthma to have an asthma check appointment annually even if you feel well. (Patients should be contacted and offered an appointment). Please make an appointment with the asthma nurse at reception if you feel it needs to be sooner or if advised by your GP.
Cardiovascular Disease Clinic (CVD)
These are run by a Practice Nurse in conjunction with one of the doctors. Your care may be solely managed by the surgery or shared with the hospital.
A full contraception service is available at the surgery including oral contraceptive pills, vaginal rings, patches and long acting forms of contraception (LARCS). These include; intrauterine devices (coils), Depo-Provera injections and implants under the skin (Nexplanon).
Please make an appointment with the Practice Nurse for repeat pill and HRT checks, repeat Depo-Provera injections or general contraceptive advice. Please make an appointment with a doctor if you wish to start a new contraceptive. Dr Smellie fits the Intrauterine devices and Implants at the surgery.
Please ask for a same day appointment if you require emergency contraception. Young people can be reassured that anything discussed in the surgery will remain completely confidential.
The clinic is run by a practice nurse and primarily helps patients monitor and improve their management of COPD.
These are run by Dr Tim Hardwick, Practice Nurse Angie Andrews and Sarah Rogers. Your care may be solely managed by the surgery or shared with the hospital.
Each autumn we provide influenza vaccination for all patients over the age of 65 and all susceptible patients under the age of 65 as directed by the Department of Health. Dates of vaccinations will be posted at the surgery. Please check with the receptionists from September onwards.
These are for anyone aged between 40 and 74 years with no chronic illness. We do not routinely offer these checks. Please enquire at reception if you would like one.
Dr Whybrew runs a skin clinic on Wednesday afternoons. This involves doing minor surgery procedures on patients she has already seen and assessed.

If you wish to stop smoking, we run a clinic to help. Please ask the nurse on your next visit or contact our reception desk.
If you are travelling abroad, the Practice Nurses can give appropriate advice and arrange the necessary vaccinations. Please contact us in plenty of time (at least 6 weeks) prior to travel. You can also refer to the Travel Information tab above for more details.

Looking after your ears
She also has a “quick look” clinic with very short appointment times to have a "quick look" at skin lesions that people are concerned might be skin cancers. This is also on a Wednesday afternoons.

If you are worried you may have a skin cancer, please tell the receptionist that this is your concern so that you can be seen quickly by the right person. Please be aware that Dr Whybrew works part time and has dermatology teaching commitments and will sometimes be on annual leave so you may need to see a different GP – this is fine as all the GPs have been trained to be able to identify skin cancers and, if they are in any doubt, they can refer to the hospital dermatology service or to Dr Whybrew.

If you are travelling to a foreign country for any reason, please telephone the surgery to book a telcon with one of our practice nurses as soon as you know you are going away. This will allow enough time to give appropriate advice and arrange any vaccinations required. There is further information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below or alternatively visit fitfortravel for more information.
It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.
Charges apply for certain administrative work not covered under the NHS. A fee payable in advance of the finalised paperwork will be charged according to our scale of fees which can be obtained from reception.
If you wish to have any work completed which is not covered under the NHS please ask a member of the reception team for a "consent form for non-NHS admin" to sign to confim that you agree to pay the appropriate fee.
