Surgery clinics

We offer a range of clinics and services at the surgery. There are some tasks you can do, such as health reviews, using our online forms.

Antenatal clinic

Our allocated midwife holds clinics here at the surgery on Fridays. If you are struggling to book a midwife appointment, please call the Birth Unit on 0300 422 5523 (Gloucester Royal Hospital).

Asthma clinic

The aim is to help patients monitor and improve their management of asthma. We would encourage all patients with asthma to have an asthma check appointment annually, even if you feel well. Patients should be contacted and offered an appointment but please make an appointment with the asthma nurse if you feel it needs to be sooner or if advised to do so by your GP.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) clinic

These are run by a practice nurse in conjunction with one of the doctors. Your care may be solely managed by the surgery or shared with the hospital.

Contraception clinic

A full contraception service is available at the surgery including oral contraceptive pills, vaginal rings, patches and long acting forms of contraception (LARCS). These include; intrauterine devices (coils), Depo-Provera injections and implants under the skin (Nexplanon). Please make an appointment with the practice nurse for repeat pill and HRT checks, repeat Depo-Provera injections or general contraceptive advice. Please make an appointment with a doctor if you wish to start a new contraceptive. Dr Smellie fits the Intrauterine devices and Implants at the surgery. Please contact Hope House on 0300 421 6532 if you require emergency contraception. Your local pharmacy may also offer an emergency contraception service. Young people can be reassured that anything discussed in the surgery will remain completely confidential.

COPD clinic

The clinic is run by a practice nurse and primarily helps patients monitor and improve their management of COPD to help prevent reoccurrences of chest infections and worsening of symptoms.

Diabetes clinic

These are run by nurse Kathryn Ashmore and in the future by nurse Sara Jones too. Your care may be solely managed by the surgery or shared with the hospital. Our aim is to work with you to help you optimise your treatment and keep your ‘diabetic’ levels in the target range.

Influenza vaccination

Each autumn we provide an influenza vaccination for all patients over the age of 65 and all susceptible patients under the age of 65, as directed by the Department of Health. Dates of vaccinations will be posted at the surgery, on our website and on our facebook page. Please check with the receptionists from September onwards. For more information, please visit www.nhs.uk.

NHS health checks (vascular screening)

These are for anyone aged between 40 and 74 years old who have no ‘chronic’ illness. We do not routinely offer these checks. Please ask our receptionists  if you would like one.

Skin clinic

Dr Whybrew offers a variety of appointments for different skin concerns, including minor surgery procedures on patients she has already seen and assessed. Many of our nurses are qualified to take Dermatoscopies of skin lesions, which our GPs can assess for you. If you have concerns about a skin lesion please get in touch with our reception team initially who can advise from there. Dr Whybrew has written some leaflets which may be helpful on;

Smoking cessation clinic

If you wish to stop smoking, please get in touch with healthy lifestyles Gloucestershire. Their website is: www.hlsglos.org. If you wish to call them, phone 0800 122 3788 and request a call back.

Travel vaccinations

If you are travelling abroad, the practice nurses can give appropriate advice and arrange the necessary vaccinations. Please complete our travel risk assessment form on our website. We will get in touch once received to organise an appropriate appointment for you.

Mental health checks

If you take medication to help you with your mental health, you may be invited to see one of our practice nurses annually to discuss how you are and to check that the medication is being effective. This gives you the opportunity to discuss any concerns or any ongoing anxieties you may have.

Dementia checks

Our HCAs offer checks once a year to those patients who are registered as having dementia. This way we can offer further support to relatives or carers where it is needed.

Learning disability checks

We recognise that there are people in the community with severe learning difficulties who may not access health screening. These reviews are run by our practice nurses and are there to support them to ensure that all of their health needs are being met.

Rheumatoid arthritis clinics

If you suffer with Rheumatoid Arthritis you will be offered an annual review with a nurse to discuss any ongoing issues and medication. The nurse will also check your blood results.
