We understand that some patients may find it helpful to record their own consultation with a clinician, so they can review advice afterwards. Patients are legally entitled to make a personal recording of their own consultation. However, we ask that you inform the clinician beforehand so this can be managed in an open and respectful way.
Recording in Public Areas
To protect the privacy and confidentiality of other patients, and the wellbeing of our staff, recording (audio or video) and photography in waiting rooms, reception, corridors, or any other shared/public areas of the practice is not permitted.
Enforcement of This Policy
- If a patient is found recording or filming in public areas, they will be asked to stop immediately.
- A note will be added to the patient’s medical record to confirm that they were asked to stop recording in a public area.
- A warning letter will then be issued to the patient to confirm the breach of practice policy.
- If a patient receives repeated warning letters within a 12-month period, this may be considered evidence of a breakdown in the GP–patient relationship. In such circumstances, the practice may, in line with NHS regulations, arrange for the patient to be removed from the practice list and advised to register with another GP.
We thank all patients for respecting the rights and dignity of others while using our services.
